Was doing some fall cleaning around the place today. On my last trip to the burn pit I got just a little too close.

I got a quarter sized scrape on my leg but that was it. Just sat there for a couple of minutes chewing myself out for being so lax. Went  to get the camera and the excavator . Didn't really take much to lift it out of there.

Looks a lot better setting on level ground. I was really glad the loader was up as I believe this kept the tractor upright.

Is that a homeless woman next to the bucket in  the first pic? If you wouldn't throw food in the pit, you wouldn't attract them.

Been there, done that.  But only with a much larger tractor.  Was dumping some brush on the pile over a bank with a IH 400 when the front wheels slide over the edge, back wheel sliding.  Brakes were on solid.  Used the loader and a couple larger log under the front wheels and back right out.  We live and we learn.  sometime sooner - -  sometimes later but we learn.

Your lucky, as my son and I say to each other, just another friendly stupid reminder. We have a few of those per day, but I did say to my son, that at least we are smart enough to get our self out of a jam, or able to fix what we broke. Having an excavator was a smart thing on your part. Didn't cost for a tow. Noel.

A fella here on pei had a farm tractor with a loader. He went to the edge of the beach bank , which had a drop of 20 to 30 feet, to dump some thing, and thought he put it in reverse to back up , but as still in a forward gear. Let the clutch out and over the bank he went. No room to stop, was killed.

Not as dumb as a driver in a Prius pulling out in front of a duece and a half...

In '76, I was a platoon leader of a bridge building platoon. We had an El Dorado pull out infront of a fully loaded 5 ton bridge truck. The M821 went right over the caddy. Driver was lucky to survive and unlucky to have witnesses. I was sure glad that it wasn't one of my 5 ton trucks.

The difference between genius and stupidity is that only genius has limits. In the grand scheme of life, your problem was a tiny bump in the road. Good Luck, Rick

How dumb can I get?

Well, if'n ya didn't say to yourself "Oh sh*t, this is gonna hurt." just as it happened, you CAN get dumber :D :D :D

Looks like that was more of an "OOPS!" moment than a "Dumb" moment.

We've all been there and done things that make us feel dumb.

My buddy just bought a duece and a half and he runs it up and down the main city strip known as Grand Central Avenue. His take on it is, anyone that will pull out in front of the duece, would pull out in front of a train. A duece and a half not loaded weighs 23,000 pounds, and is built to roll over things.

No homeless people but I can see what your looking at. Old blanket and carpet. Also some old wing covering material.

Let the clutch out and over the bank he went. No room to stop, was killed.

That was a sad accident but we don't need anything like that happening here.

Well, if'n ya didn't say to yourself "Oh sh*t, this is gonna hurt."

I did say something but I can't remember what it was.
