My wife talked me into driving our '55 GMC up to the "Holy Terror Days" parade in Keystone South Dakota to enter an "Ugly Truck Contest" about a month ago. I'm not real big on entering shows or contests of any kind but she insisted. Keystone is the closest town to Mt. Rushmore, about 2 miles down the mountain.

The guy organizing the contest was pretty excited to see our truck and showed us the first place trophy he built out of a die-cast bank. It was a GMC too! He said the Judges ain't gonna vote for your truck though because of the "cool factor". We were suprised to win it and even more shocked when a check for $100 came with it! Here's a few pics.

Yeah about that year. I know the bank isn't a '54 or '55 1st design but earlier is harder for me to determine.

I remember we had a 2-1/2 ton 1953 GMC with that grille. Tough old truck. We used it hauling fire wood!

I googled that year and it looks like '50-'53 had about the same grille.

Congrats on the truck and the trophy. I have half a dozen of the 55 - 59 Chevy and GMC trucks. I call them my "Frog Faced Chevys". Someday I will get to restore a couple. One is even a factory four wheel drive. Good Luck, Rick

Congratulations !!

Gotta love those old "frog faced trucks" as Boyscout calls 'em. I have a 56 GMC myself with the Pontiac V-8 tri-power and a close ratio 4-speed that needs finished, someday....

Congrats on the win.

If it helps ya out any for peace of mind, that style is now the "in thing". I am on a forum/couple FB pages that the rusty rat rod, "natural patina" look is the hot thing. Guys cringe at even clear coating over the rust. Just get them running and safe driving condition and there ya go.

Yep, I know what you mean.  I think this truck tips the scale of "cool" pretty darned good!  And I'm basically a Ford guy.

When I was 6 or 7 my oldest brother would let me steer his '56 on the back roads to the dump. Three on the tree. Sure wish I had it now.

Congrats on the win. That's one cool ride

That brings back memories. My uncle had a 55 chevy Cameo(I think ) with a slide in camper.
He took his whole family(big family 7 kids) to Texas and Arizona in it one year.
