In a continuation of fixing/improving the Suzue(frugally as possible), Mike and I started on the muffler. It's a one piece job. Exhaust pipes and tip welded to the muffler. It had been repaired sometime in the past, and like most of the Suzue's repairs........not well. A combination of welds/brazing resulted in numerous exhaust leaks. Poor grinds thinned metal in places. Some pics, pretty ugly.

The exhaust pipe welds were removed. Tedious, but straightforward. The exhaust tip.....not so much. By the time the brazing was removed, we realized the surrounding metal was shot.

We sliced the end off on the bandsaw.

Time to break down, and rebuild.

Made a new end plate from a scrap piece. Hole was done with an 1-1/4" hole saw, slowly with liberal WD sprayed on. Had an old exhaust pipe off an 80's Kubota 175. It was pitted, but thick walled. I thought the texture would look cool wit the paint we're using. I cut a bend off, left a bit long.

Trimmed the tip to shape, finish welded.

IMG_20161117_113841_zpsm0q0tz5p.jpg

Welded up and sandblasted. On to paint.

Nice fix. That muffler is made of some heavy gauge metal. Should last a long time now.

Now, let's say, I do paint the thing, with, oh say, some flat black BBQ paint in a quart can, that say, I may, or may not, have gotten at a yard sale for 50 cents, about say, 15 years ago. And if by some miracle, I did paint it, and showed you a picture of it, all done and pretty as a fresh picked peach...............would that cleanse my non-paintin', rust bucket ridin', couldn't even finish a cup of coffee rap in your eyes?

Thanks Chris. If we paint it, there's no telling how long it could last :bigrofl:

Thanks. I love the value in these little machines.

Well....... it would leave me to believe that Mike snuck in there behind your back and got it done without you noticing.

Hee hee, ha ha.

Poor Scott, now he has seen paint in a tiretrx post. He will believe the whole world it turning upside down.

Wonderful improvements, Ellis! You and Mike make a good team. I like the fixes on the exhaust. It seems like a moot point, but I like all the extra details like trimming the exhaust pipe tip to achieve a factory style look, the use of new fasteners, etc..... not always completely necessary but it's the kind of anal stuff like that which I can't leave alone on my projects either. :D

Photobucket has done away with free hosting.  They now charge an outrageous amount to link to your pics you have had there for years.

The Suzue is doing well, Scott. We have a front winch on it now. Pretty little tractor. And yes, much better than things with PB. I was aggravated at first, but have since moved on. At the end of the day......it is, what it is......small potatoes.

Too bad PB is taking out all pics, even from before. That will make a lot of threads very non functional. Best to upload the pics here!
