I have a B48m that tossed its starter during a backfire.
It had this style starter

The mount seemed thin where it broke, (at the case of the starter) almost like it was defective there...
I was hoping to find something more rigid and stumbled on this.

It's listed as a Marine starter for the b43/48
Is this just more expensive with a nose cone or is it a more rigid unit?
I see no adjustment... Maybe incompatible?

I've seen that style starter listed as used on some P220's, but not as an option on a B48m. But I might have missed something.

The one with the fancy nose cone is 191-1808-02. I'm not necessarily asking if that exact number will work, just if there is something stouter than the aftermarket 191-0933

Alan i am about 99.9% sure that starter will not interchange. The bolt spacing is different and yours does not have the clearance for the cone. The mounting area will also be about the same thickness as yours. If you need a starter let me know as I have a new one here. PM me if you want info or give me a call.

I'll bet your starter is/was a new replacement, not an American Bosch original equpment.  What you have encountered is really common with the off-shore replacements.

My recommendation is to locate a good used original.  either put new brushes and bushings in it, or install and run until it needs them.  It will be much better that a new, non-original starter.

PM me if you are interested in that alternative as I may have one on the shelf.
