I swapped my 110sf Patio that needed to go to a collector to be restored for a worker that I needed.  This old 1970 140H3, running well despite a leaking head gasket.  I will refresh her in the spring, already have ag tires for the back, but need some decent turfs(prefer OEM style) to put on the front as both are about ready to split open in the tread area from dry rot.  Tri ribs are in its future along with a 3pt hitch on the rear.   Mike

Nice, I have a 1970 H3 also. It is well built. I want to get some hydraulic attachments for the front, which I don't have yet. It's one of my favorite tractors that I own. Mine still had the original tires on it when I got it. I am the third owner. I put other tires on the rear, just for the heck of it. I rarely get stuck cutting grass. Noel

Nice tractor, I have some nice Goodyear 23 8.50-12 ag tires on rims that I will put on this one.  Planning on braving the chilly weather for the Northern Indiana meet and greet up north of Warsaw tomorrow.  While mostly Wheel Horse, I am hoping to find some front tires for mine, if it wasnt for the severe dry rot, I would save them both.  I have always wanted an H3.  I had an H1 years ago.  I will be on a parts hunt next spring at Portland.  Need to find a better hood, new hood decals and a 3pt hitch.   Mike

Have you tried J&D Lawn Tractor in Mendon, Il. for a hood? They may be out of line on price but it could be a place to start. They have a web site at www,jdlawntractor.com

Congrats on the 140 H3. Noel has the only H3 that I've seen in this area. They are genuinely rare here.

Congrats on the 140 H3. I had a 140 H1 for over 20 years, and loved it. Upgraded to a 318 four years ago.  I have some JD 140 manuals scanned in to PDFs that I could send you. Let me know

Harlan

Nice find!  The 140 is a great gt.  There is or was a 140  for sale on Omaha craigslist  that has the 3-point on it.  It has been on there awhile.

I do wish it was the later version with the Dana rear axle in it, mine has the earlier style hydro rear end with disc brakes.  But for what I do it will be just fine.  I am debating between the Ruegg 3pt which uses the mid rockshaft like the integral hitch to lift, or hunting down the OEM JD hitch and the required rear hyd lines so I can truely use the H3 aspect of the tractor.  While she will probably never sport a front blade or blower, it would be nice to have the 3pt on its own lever.  All depends on how generous the owner is with our Christmas and sales bonus we get in a couple months.   Mike
