There is a bearing adjustment plug on the back end of the Worm gear.
If it's to loose the worm gear will bind up after a few turns.

I wouldn't use it till you get a chance to change the gear oil in it and adjust the end-play out of it.

Now if I could just figure out how to remove the pto shaft I would be set and that I only have phone internet till I stop by the shop tomorrow. so till then when I can look up some manuals. Any tips

Removing the tiller driveshaft is easy.
Added pic.

That whole assembly hanging under the front grill of the tractor is the tiller driveshaft and pulley setup.Just jump the belt off and pop the 2 pins in the front below the grill on the frame and it's off.

I've had a couple of these tractors.They have bulletproof trannys and the engines are big heavy and put out alot of torque.
The only thing I would ever complain about on them would be the frame being weak just behind the engine.I've had 1 twist it's self in 1/2 and 2 other ones with cracks in the same place.
