Another road trip but this one is only an hour or so away.  Had some errands to run on the way to the city to pick up new glasses.  Taking a short cut to stop at a friend place to see what he had scrounged lately, I went past several houses on the edge of town.  Sitting next to the drive along side a couple golf carts was a GT.  I thought the back look kind of familiar with the so did a quick look back and seen the word BOLENS on the side of the hood.

Business taken care of and made a return trip back to where I saw that tractor.  I pulled in the drive and there sat a 1476 with a blade standing on end in front.  Looked a little rough due to the fender pan being bent up good on one side.  Went to the dor and a young lady with a baby came to the door and I told her who was and why I was at her door.  "Does your husband want to sell the tractor?"  I asked,  "As a mater of fact he does,  I will get him on the phone".  After asking some questions about the tractor, etc. I asked what he though he had to have for it.  He said "I will never get it fixed up so all I want is what I paid for it,  $100. and there is a deck that goes with it also.  Needless to say I agreed on the price and going back tomorrow with the trailer and pick up the tractor and blade.  will get the deck later as it is still at the PO residence.  I guess after getting burned on the G16 and the trouble I had with the Gardener I MAY have got lucky for a change.  Will know more when I get it home.

I guess he hasn't advertised it at all.  He said to bought it from a lady that was real good friends with his mother, so am sure she gave him a good deal.  I liked to fell over when he said $100.  Motor is free.  Oil is just under full and no indication of any water present.  He said it will roll but is kind of hard and cannot move it very fast.  Typical good hydro.  Has the LF tire flat and partially rolled off the wheel.  Engine looked clean as did the rest of the tractor.  Clean as in not covered in grease, oil and dirt.

Sounds like a good find. If I have the extra time I often take the long way or the back roads everywhere just so I can look for Bolens tractors. I've found a few, but most people think the tractors are gold as they sit in the weeds and rot into the earth. Can't wait to see some pics of your find.

$100 is a good price. In fact, any tractor with an engine that turns over and looks compete enough to use if it just "happens" to run... Is worth $100. Examples of deals I have made recently in the $100 range include:

Cub Cadet 102 that had no seat... No spark... $150... Was running in a week with new points and condensor.
New Holland S-14 that ran last year... $50... Was running with new battery before unloading... Control linkages were frozen... Heat and lots of tinkering, good to go. (Seller even delivered)
Complete Springfield with good fiberglass... $100... Still sitting at Alan's lol.
Four mostly complete Springfields is various disrepair... $500... One is running, haven't worked on the others, but they might... Yes I bought in bulk that round lol.

The key here is that most any garden tractor can be repaired enough to use without breaking the bank, or spending more than $100 or so. For those that want in the hobby... Don't look at the color on the hood... But the completeness of the bargain at hand. Parts are where Expenses get out of hand. Any tractor can be a show tractor, even in work clothes, rust, and other cobblations. The host of the local tractor / engine show here said once "Doesn't matter what the machine looks like as long as when you bring it to the show... You have fun."

OK - So you want pics.  I'll take them in the rain then so don't complain because they are dark.  Ge-e-e-ee-z-z-z-z!

Blade-1.JPG      Blade-2.JPG

Blade needs a new cutter bar and replace the swivel lock.

Back tires are both shot.  Hole big enough to throw a cat through.  Fronts are usable for a while.  Gas tank really stinks.  Wet on the bottom so not rusted.  Need to get it off and cleaned up.  Then the fuel pump and carb.  Long ways to go before this one is work ready for sure.  For now just want to get tires on it so I can move it around.
