All:

There is a JD 165 Hydro for sale locally on Craigslist for $200. The poster says it's not running, but did 2 years ago when parked.

I am interested in possibly rehabbing the machine and either keeping it or selling (hopefully for a profit).

Where can I find manuals and other info on this tractor? This site doesn't seem to have one on it.

Thanks.
Caleb

JD manuals are very hard to find on the net. John Deere really keeps a tight rein on them. About your only chance is to find someone who has scanned his manual & will share them with you. Posting JD manuals on the net for all to see might get JD's interest. Some are available though just the same.

I was afraid of that, especially since JD is all about the green.

Can anybody share any info on this tractor with me? I understand that it has a hydro rear end on it, but would it also have a hydro lift for the deck?

Also, I think I found out that it is a 12.5 HP Kohler motor. Is this correct?

Thanks again.

No, it's not a Kohler engine, but a Kawasaki engine. But it is a 12.5 hp, same as what was on the JD 112L and the JD 160 lawn tractors. This model does not have hydraulic lift. The lift is manual. The hydrostatic transmission on this model is a light duty Eaton transmission, therefore would not support any auxiliary ports. The 165 model was part of the lawn tractor line that included the 130 (gear), 160 (gear), 170 (gear), 175 (hydro), 180 (gear) and 185 (hydro). All had Kawasaki engines with hp ranging from 9 on the 130 to 17 on the 180/185. This line replaced the 108, 111, 112L and 116 lawn tractors. The 165 was made from 1986 to 1988 (though the rest of that line was made until 1990). The 165 had a 2 bladed 38 inch deck. Attachments included a 38 inch snow blower and a 42 inch snow blade. It was a lawn tractor so there were no other ground engaging equipment available for it. Good little mowers, but not much else.

BTW, I had uploaded the 1987 lawn tractor brochure here, which will have the 165 in it.
