Ok, that was another option I had.  Would you be able to send me a simple wiring diagram to do this?

 

Also, does it matter which coil I would buy?

Hi web, I use a Wells LU800 12 V coil no need for ballast resistor if you can not find a lug on the ignition swith with 12 VDC when cranking then a separate ignition  switch is needed run a wire with +12 v to the + terminal of the coil run a wire from the - terminal of the coil to the points located on the lower engine block below the muffler / carb mount the coil on the engine.

Just an update here.  Got the automotive coil installed, a new push button switch for the starter, and using the existing points.  Starts and runs really good.  This tractor has never started so easily.
