This weekend one of our Grandson's (he is 5 )came over to spend the entire weekend with us.  He has been showing an interest in learning thing in the shop and helping Grandpa.  So I came up with a project we could do together.  When I was a kid we didn't have a lot of money for toys so you learned how to make your own toys and use your imagination.  On of the toys I made way back when was a simple paddle boat.  So that is what we did this weekend.  I let him do most of the work with me guiding him.  We used a hand saw and he got to use a drill and driver to run the screws and he did the painting.  I helped with the paddle and sealed the wood. The boat floats and runs pretty good in the tube.  I'm pretty proud of him

Hi Bill. Very cute grandson. You have just created a memory for the rest of his life. You have also tickled his imagination to create his own toys. My grandfather did the same for me 60 years ago. PRICELESS! Good Luck, Rick

In the spring teach him  how to make a willow whistle.

Your Right Rick time like this are priceless for both of us.

I taught him how to first make a drawing of what he wanted and figure out his dimensions.  When we go the base rough cut he looked at it and you could see the light bulb come on in his eyes.  He grabbed the picture we had done and looked at me and said "That's just like the picture Grandpa COOL!"  That really was priceless moment!
