Puter dummy here, so "talk" easy w/out the terms I don't know. I have some Speedex files that are rough to read. I can see them if I put under my mag light. They are kinda weak and small, downloaded from net and surely not orig there either. SO.....thinking if they were pdf files I could enlarge and print as wanted and take to garage to work off of. CAN I scan off my scanner to be a pdf file? THEN, how is it saved? Do I have to put on CD or a thumb drive? Or can it just be saved in a file on puter, and then which one? I have a scanned items file now, does it just go there as others and then open the pdf program when needed to see? I'm not sure Where to go to pick pdf file if I can do that, on the puter.
Can I make pdf off my scanner?

I guess a lot depends on your particular scanner.
My scanner has a pdf button to press to create a pdf file.

There is either a button on the unit or you have to use the software that came with the scanner to do it.

If the document you are scanning is low resolution being able to make it bigger is not going to help much.

An option to consider is scanning it to a high-res file then printing it to PDF using CutePDF. I have been using this application for over 10 years without a problem. Used it on Win2k, XP, and 7 so far.
