Good evening everyone. Awhile back on pennswoods there was a sears suburban for sale. It was a little far aways from me but it lately has been on my mind. Went to check today and noticed it was gone! :( But there was something different about it. It was a SS model but it wasnt a twin. It had a single cylinder ohv briggs on it??? It was a 18hp ohv. So which leads me to this. Was that a correct engine for that? And how much rarer are those engines compared to the kohler k361? I never knew briggs made one until i seen that. Andone have any info on that model tractor/enigne? I know tecumseh makes lots of ohv engines but never seen one from an older briggs like that.

That might have been a more recent repower. I know back in the 20-30's Briggs made an ohv engine but they were only a couple hp or so and I don't think they made another ohv engine until the late 80's but I could be mistaken on that.  I looked quickly though some of my engine books at work and they only show twin cylinder 18 hp engines and the books go up to 1982.             Stewart

Thanks everyone. It looked factory and the previous owner claimed it was an option but it was very rare because most were the twin cylinder onans. It didnt look like a kohler so thats why i ask. How about a tecumseh? did they happen to make a single 18hp?

Briggs never had an 18hp OHV single that I know of, until the Intek line...late 90's, early 2000's?  And I think those were vertical shaft...

I know a guy who owned 2 1978 GT18 with the Tecumseh OH180, had a sickle bar on the one, loader on the other. Both were Silver/black.
