In the early 60's JFK had his personal device for listening to Castro. This is how he avoided "The Cuban Missiles"

It was easier in the 60's to know when your neighbor is listening to you.

Is it any wonder it took the concept of hearing aides so long to gain popularity?

(From the Oct. 1947 Popular Mechanics)

Using nothing but military surplus parts and a 1937 Plymouth, Jerry Tidwell was able to make the world's first prefrontal generator.

Billy was proud of his new invention. The head mounted swimming assistance device. For some reason it really never caught on though.

Bob like his new job.  It was usually peaceful and serene.  However, it was not without great personal risk.  The device was diffucult to get out of.  If he ate mexican the night before, he risked total deafness.
