[KIRO-1]

Bought a 74 MF12 today. Pretty good condition. Came with 2 mower decks, 42" snow thrower, 42" angle plow blade and rototiller attachment. Steering linkage needs adjusting as well as the clutch brake. A little finicky to start. Was thinking it may need a good carb. cleaning. Other than that , it's a pretty sound machine. Will try and get some pics. of her tommorow to post.

Thanks, I can't wait either. <LOL> Got some domestic chores to do in the AM tommorow then the bride says I can play. <VBG> This is my first Massey so I'm pretty excited about putting her to work. Wondering though if I should hang onto the 2nd 610 mower deck or sell it. Thoughts?

I'd hang on to it for now. Make sure it's in good shape, and that way you can quickly swap out if the other blows a bearing or ? in the middle of
cutting season.

If that is a 12hp Kohler engine, they are bad about leaking oil along the rod that
operates the points. Most of the time the points cause more trouble than the carb.

First off, welcome to GTtalk. Second, if you are planning on using the Massey MF12 to mow with I would definitely keep the extra mower deck. Having the spare parts will come in handy.

The MF-12 has a Tecumseh engine and runs a solid state ignition.

You are correct about it having a 12 HP Tecumseh engine w/solid state ignition. It's not the original short block though. Have all the service receipts from 1992 forward. (2nd owner kept everything neatly in a 3 ring binder) The engine was replaced in 1993 with another 12 hp Tecumseh. As for hanging on to the extra deck. I think you are right, I'll hang on to it for parts. Spent the day tearing down one of the decks, cleaning it, greasing all the mandrels, repacking the gear box with new grease and sharpening & balancing the blades. The rear roller needs new bushings. Any idea where I can find them? Sorry, still no pics. Soon though!!! <VBG>
