So, I had the "correct" belt on my 31 tiller on my 214 and it seemed way too tight, nearly impossible to get on and kept twisting every time I would start it. Now, this belt came with the tiller and is now a line instead of a circle but he said it was the right one and worked. I am wondering what to do. If I should just buy a new belt and slap it on or if I need to come up with a new plan...Any help is appreciated, thanks guys.

see the following link on how the belt is to go on
Weekend Freedom Machines: Model 31 tiller
and look for the post by Edward H. Lincoln

also see pic by Matt Ludt
Weekend Freedom Machines: Tiller model 31
in pic see C - the pulley is to tighten the belt
I loosen it to remove the belt so that I can remove the tiller from the tractor
then when I put the tiller back on the tractor I tighten again

I hope this help good luck

I ended up getting a belt that was just over or just under (depending on what my tiller serial number is) a half inch to long. And it works perfect. So, I don't know if something is bent on mine or what but this belt works nicely and was actually possible to put on.
