How tough are the gov't. regulations on draining water in your part of the country? Up here it's getting so that you hardly dare walk across a field with a hoe in your hand before someone "in authority" is on your case because someone downstream figures the water should go somewhere else or stay where it is, regardless of the natural lie of the land.
