A lot of people like the Kohler carb the best.  It is the easiest to work on and works the best.

The Walbro adjustable carb, is a lot better than the fixed jet Walbro.

The Walbro adjustable carb is hard the get the settings right.

I have work on 2 Walbro adjustable carbs, they were hard to adjust, because somebody put the wrong one on the motors I got.

I have 3 Walbro adjustable carbs,  2 are the model 60's and are hard to adjust on a 12 hp motor.  The other Walbro is a model 52 which is the right size for a 12 hp, but it is in bad shape.  I should clean and rebuild and try it for myself to see how it would work.

The Kohler carbs model 26 are the right carb for the 8, 10 and 12 hp motors.  The Kohler carb model 30 is for the 14 and 16 hp motors.

There is another Kohler carb model 26 which did come on the 14 hp motors, but I think they are rare.

The Walbros carbs model 52 are for the 10 and 12 hp motors and the model 60 is for the 14 and 16 hp motors.

Using the right size carbs for the right motor does make the carb easier to make the adjustments on and run right.

lyall nailed it.  Have owned three Deere's with Walbro carbs and my mantra at this point is this: if it runs leave it alone.  My 120 came with a Walbro that was nothing but a pain and it got swapped for a Carter 26.  I picked up a 314 that had been sitting.  That Walbro carb cleaned up and worked great.  My current 312 is my first "leave it alone" attempt at the Walbro.  Other than cleaning the needle on the carb I have done nothing to it.
