These are just pictures of when I got it home and one of it now, taken apart. Next chance I get to work on it, I am going to get the wiring to the coil right and then start on cleaning fuel tank and replacing valve and line. I will update as I progress. Really appreciate the help, this is my first John Deere and my first restoration type project so I will have a lot of questions

So it looks that the previous owner bypassed the seat and neutral safety switches. Both wires that go to neutral safety switch are connected on their own, same as the wires for seat safety switch. Is this ok? I fixed wires on coil but still have no spark at plug or points

We have spark boys!!! I pulled apart the connectors that connect pink wire from starter switch to black wire attached to pos side of coil. It was so much worse than it looked in the dark last night. Sprayed it good with elec. cleaner and now I have spark and it looks like good spark. Fuel system is my next go. Thank you guys for your help

Not much work on the tractor or anything for that matter, been raining and no room in the garage to work haha. How do I post pics on here?

Check out the link in my signature!

Awesome thanks. Update: spark is good and new shut off valve installed at fuel tank. New fuel line also installed. The carb doesn't look too dirty and I can see fuel in the carb. I can almost get it to fire up but it's not quite there. Should I pull carb and clean it?

Can,t hurt to clean the carb formsure. Are your points set right on, Kohler engines are fussy about the point setting.

I set them at .020 last night. That's the right gap correct?

That probably has a fuel pump.See if you have fuel to the pump. That should be gravity fed.then check if you have fuel after pump.if you do than you know the pump is ok.

Update: the carburator is clean and float and needle are in good shape. Also I have fuel after fuel pump. When I try to start it almost fires up but then puffs out of carb. What does this mean? Valves sticking?

Update on my update: she finally fired up!! Ran at idle with choke on for a little and then I was able to open choke and throttle all the way. It sounds great! Idk how long this thing sat without running. It's so amazing to me when old motors fire up and run after sitting for long periods. The exhaust is loose right at motor so that needs to be fixed. It was smoking a bit. Could that just be from sitting and burning off whatever gunk is in motor? After I let it run at idle and full throttle for a little I decided to plop down right on the fuel tank and take her for a spin around my neighborhood at 8:30 pm haha, my neighbors love me. It goes forward and reverse just fine. so I'm pretty happy about the progress. I appreciate your guys help to this piint
