Not a good day with puller hooked up and tires didn't grab right away. THEN the front end came up it took off and couldn't stop it before the end of the pad. so I hit the brakes. came down way to hard. Oh well

Thats truly unfortunate. So do you source another cast axle or fabricate a steel axle?

Thinking I would make one out of Steel.Either 2x3 or 2x4 or solid Steel. But you want Some weight on the front. With an aluminum axle you will tear the welds out. They don't bend but will Flex a bit.

I've seen alot of pullers use these axles.Just bolt it fast you don't need it to pivot.

That gives me nightmares lol.

My story :(

I just got my 149 back together after installing a fresh rebuilt ported pump and hydro lift cylinder and the whole 9 yards (mine came factory with manual lift) and new driveshaft couplers and pins.I took it for a short ride.Must not of had the linkage adjusted correctly on the tranny.Note I had the heavy hood and cast grill off of the tractor so no weight on the front.

I bumped it into reverse then bumped it forward but it went WAY to far forward. It came straight up and back down Super hard.Busted the axle on the left side tore the carb off, smashed the air cleaner and cracked the oil pan.I was used to the non ported pumps normally they will bog the engine down or spin tire. This thing came up and stayed straight up in the air and tossed me off of the seat.

I now respect the ported pumps :rolling:  Those old Cast axles snap Way to easily btw.I would rather have one that bends than one that snaps like a trig.

My father-in-law told me about being asked to settle a disagreement between a couple of friends.
They were building a Super Modified car to race in Knoxville, Ia.
One wanted to harden the tie-rod ends and the other wanted them tempered so they would bend instead of break.
Naturally John said they should bend.
Incidentally that car, a 4 door model A FOrd with the front doors cut out and a Buick NAILHEAD is on display in the National Sprint Car Halll of Fame Museum next to the track. It was pretty successful till the Sprint Cars came on the scene, and took the unlimited modifieds out of the picture.
