Have my S14d torn down ready to rebuild, but I would like to paint it the original green color. Does anyone have the code or any ideas where to get the original color paint?

I never tried to match that color yet. Sounds like you have a Factory replacement in one of your Bolens?

ok , the originals were not green? My dad bought this tractor in 1974, i have been around it since then. I guess he could have had the engine replaced, but I dont remember it.. Are the originals white? or similar?

The original engine was painted the same color as the sheet metal & frame.

As Brian said, the green was Wisconsin's replacement engine color.

can confirm.  My grandfather installed a S14D when the S12D wore out in our 1250.  The engine was originally green.  Last year when I replaced the fuel pump on it I scraped some of the brown paint that had been flaking off the block.  Low and behold, Wisconsin green underneath the brown paint.

Ok sounds good. I wish I could still ask my dad if he had it replaced., just because I dont remember it, must have been a long time ago when I was a little kid. Thank you all for your help. I have been taking pics of the engine removal and engine teardown.  I am going to post some of the progress soon,

My dad bought this tractor in 1974, i have been around it since then. I guess he could have had the engine replaced, but I dont remember it..

I think this a clue!

The Bolens 1476 was a 1970-1971 model only.  .....So, if your dad really did buy it in 1974, it was a used tractor when he bought it, and the engine may have been replaced by a previous owner.

If he bought the tractor from a dealer, the tractor may have been traded-in with a bad engine, which the dealer replaced with a new engine, which would have Wisconsin's 1-year warranty for your dad.

What are the Wisconsin numbers on your engine?  .....According to some Bolens paperwork (not always 100% accurate), the 1970 and 1971 model 1476-01 tractors had a Wisconsin S14D-318974, while the 1971 model 1477-01 tractors had a Wisconsin S14D-342332 engine.  ....1969 model 1455 (198-01) tractors used the Wisconsin S14D-309245, while the 1969 model 1455 (198-02) tractors used the S14D-318974.

To add to the confusion: Spec # 309245 had battery ignition

Spec # 318974 had Solid State ignition

Spec # 342332 had Solid State ignition

1969,1970 & 1971 were the only years Bolens installed 14hp Wisconsin engines on their tractors.

Here are the numbers on my engine. He did buy it used. It was right around 1974 when he bought it. I was talking to my mother about it a few weeks ago. she agreed it was right about 1974

According to the Wisconsin build date serial number lookup (pinned on Bolens forum), your engine was manufactured in 1976.
