My wife had a vr6 vw jetta when we first started going out. One car I refused to work on. Even local mechanics were hesitant to touch it. I was glad when that car went away. But it was fast nice handling car though
That jetta had wear sensors on the brakes hooked to the computer that told you when to change

I will NEVER own another vw product

It may be the same setup as my wife's 2010 Dodge Journey. After a screwing from the dealership I started doing the work on it. I did all the brakes last fall and built this tool from an old 1-1/16" socket. 50 plus bucks locally for that tool was out of line I thought.

You can thank GM for the screw/retractable calipers. Most of the the newer VW's the rear calipers need to be retracted electronically through the use of a scanner.

BINGO!!!

We have a winner!!  Take your farfugnuugen as you may but after having the displeasure of working on one of those things I truly believe they design them never to be worked on without complete disassembly!

I had a late 90s jetta. Loved it till it started having problems. CV joints. Power windows broke once a month. Electrical gremlins. Turn the radio on and the wipers would start running.

It never left me stranded nor failed to start but man the quality is subpar everywhere else. That little motor was tough and had good power for what it was.
