Hello,

new member here.  just joined the group after buying a running MF12 garden tractor today.  been looking for one of the 'old' type garden tractors w/ a horizontal engine and found it today.

there is no mower deck and the throttle cable probably needs replacement.  it has new tires and seems to do ok.  bought it to tow a cart around the yard for spraying weeds, etc.

it has solid state ignition.  so is this a techumseh or kohler engine?  thanks.

Great machine. Should be a Tecumseh, and is it a geared or hydro tractor. Model and serial number would tell us some thing and pictures are very well come. I have a geared one. Noel.

thanks for all the encouragement.  it is a hydro tranny.  a few things need 'help':  the seat (is trashed) and the throttle cable (is stuck).  will post some photos soon.  it's not bad and it does run!  where is the 'tag' with s/n model, etc?

did download the manual.  thanks.

The tag is on the tower next to your knee while riding.
It's a great tractor, very nice to drive when all is dialed in right.

Does it have the sleeve hitch in it?

no sleeve hitch.  starter is geared,  not belt drive.  changed oil this morning.  went around property spraying weeds and pulling cart.  at end of trip after about 1 hr. of operation the drive belt slipped out of the channel.  it was inverted (installed wrong), cracked and in need of replacement.

so i had to pull it into the shed with the tractor.  from the agco parts list it appears to take 2 V-belts: 60" & 45"?  it looks like there is a center pulley just under the drive lever.  well, there is another diagram on the drive idler conversion kit that shows the setup on this tractor with a single long belt of 82 9/64" in length.  this is about right.

are there simple mods to remove this hydro from the tractor to simplify the operation?

Then you have a single belt, motor to trans/axle.

right ~82", but the belt on the tractor was 3/8" x 80.5" - and mounted 'inverted' which is why it didn't work too well.  i just did a check and learned that it is a 1/2" belt, not 3/8" - tractor supply sells these locally.  will get one mid-week.

thanks.

after inspection, one of the drive belt idler pulleys is missing.  hopefully tractor supply sells a replacement of the mf 511627M1.
