I have my K341 out of my Ford LGT in our machine shop at work. It needs a piston, rod , gaskets etc.....The prices for Kohler or even Stens parts are ridiculous up here in Canada. We are debating trying one of those rebuild kits offered on eBay. With shipping, exchange, customs etc, its still going to be about $250 Cdn, but thats just about what they want for a rod up here.

Has anyone try these kits and what was your luck with them?

Hi Harry I've used those kits from the same seller, 3 different engines and found them to be good,

Will has one of them up north in his snow blower Massey tractor and I got 2 in a couple of  MF16 tractors.

1 of mine failed because the cooling fins got plugged up with grass, engine over heated and the piston split. If I had of put the flywheel screen on it would probably not of happened.

Hope this helps.

Send me a PM with what you need I'll be glad to give you the best price I can on Genuine Kohler  or Aftermarket parts, I would suggest an OEM rod and piston atleast and the rest could be aftermarket

Add me to the "satisfied customer" list as well. I've bought 2-3 rebuild sets from this guy - couple 341's and a 181 iir. Smooth deal and the parts were good quality.

Those kits make me nervous.... none of the big aftermarket company's most lawn and garden dealers deal with offer the piston or rod for these, must be a chineese special, never a good sign  when dealer cost for a single connecting rod exceeds the cost of an entire kit!

my 0.02 !!!

I was a little hesitant to use after market parts but I just recently did a rebuild on a K341 using that same ebay kit. The rebuild probably has less than 10 hours on it so I can't say much about long term reliability.  The engine currently runs strong with no smoking or any other problems..

I did my lgt 165 last year. Like you say, expensive to get parts in Canada. So I used a kit from e bay. Don't remember the seller, but it was a great kit for around the 250 mark. Still runs great. I will get another one from eBay , if I ever need to. Noel

Ordered a kit today, with valves......total $216 CDN, that's with the Pitney Bowes that takes care of the import charges etc
