The power steering on my Massey 175 was getting really poor.I found that the main steering shaft was worn out. It was out of round by about 3/16 of a inch.I welded a bunch of beads where the shaft was worn out and then put it in my homemade lathe. It took a bit of time but I was able to repair the shaft and get the steering to work again. I used a angle grinder, some wheel bearings from GT'S ,some angle iron, and a 3 way cross drill press vise. Fabricated it all up before I did and welding to make sure it would do the job. BTW I've used this method to rebuild rollers on my round baler.Took me longer to fabricate the setup then it took to do the actual welding and grinding down the shaft. I've gotten the surface pretty close. I was trying for 1.870 in but in the end the upper one is 1.867 and the lower one is 1.868 so its almost perfect.
