I have a 46" deck on my 318 and I would like to upgrade the size of the pulley to make the blades spin faster. Not sure this can even be done but I seem to remember someone else doing this very thing.

Can anyone tell me what would be needed to do this if it is possible?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim wouldn't you need to go with a smaller deck pulley to spin it faster ? I have a 318 w/50"deck and I always thought it didn't have the blade speed that others have . There was a thread about this subject

Here is the JD part # for the speed up pulley for the 50 deck:

AM116141 SHEAVE 1 (OPTIONAL) (INCREASES BLADE TIP SPEED APPROX. 10 PERCENT FOR IMPROVED CUTTING QUALITY)

I read that others bought it to use on a 46 deck, but no follow-up reports. So I don't know if that actually works.

Dimensions of the speed up pulley:

 OD 6.610"
 Bore .752"

 Groove size .688".

If I remember right, the stock size pulley is 7".

I do believe you are right! I'm going to check in to the part# that CAT385B gave.

CAT385B: thanks for that info. It may be a week or so but I'll look into it and leave a follow-up as to if it works.
