I got the exact tractor only called a yard machine... Changed the belts last year WHAT A PITA!!

You're supposed to take them in for service! :poke:

I got the belts off. Not that bad. But I found issues. First of all, the engine pulley wasn't on real tight. The washer could spin before I even took the bolt loose. Wrong washer for sure. Slid the pulley set off and found the top pulley bent badly. The stamped key inside was about worn smooth. Luckily, I had the pulley off my old MTD and it is a match.

Here's the belts. Keep in mind both of these are supposed to be 5/8" wide.

Then, I found what was causing his 'pop' issue going up hill. the tranny pulley wasn't tight either and the pulley was slipping on it's star adapter. I'll have to watch that closely when I put it back together.

Needless to say, it need a little love. I have to admit this thing does mow great for what it is.

Belts look slightly worn :D

 

Good thing about this "bolens" most parts are readily available and cheap! :D

Yeah, they needed to be replaced some time soon. Got it all back together and we now have 1st gear for the first time! I can only say I am thankful for having  MTD experience!
