I was in Watertown yesterday morning running some errands. They have a classifieds on the radio called Farmers market each morning and I was listening to it when they read an ad for an Allis 1920 with a loader. The seller stated that it didn't run and he wanted $300 for it. For that money I couldn't couldn't visualize much of a tractor but called the number anyway. There was no answer and I told myself I didn't need another project and hung up. A few minutes later the seller calls back and we have a nice visit. The tractor is a hundred miles away but I decide to take a chance and go look. This is what I found.
The loader and weight box appears to be an original Simplicity loader combination. The owner claims the tractor started making a metal to metal banging noise so he shut it off right away and parked it. I have turned the motor over with the starter and don't hear any noise so I will have to investigate more. I'm hoping that it is the rear universal joint on the drive shaft. If it is the engine I have a low hour match setting on the shelf. The tractor has 600 hours on it and appears to been well cared for. The down side is I already have two loader tractors.
