I was in Watertown yesterday morning running some errands. They have a classifieds on the radio called Farmers market each morning and I was listening to it when they read an ad for an Allis 1920 with a loader. The seller stated that it didn't run and he wanted $300 for it. For that money I couldn't couldn't visualize much of a tractor but called the number anyway. There was no answer and I told myself I didn't need another project and hung up. A few minutes later the seller calls back and we have a nice visit. The tractor is a hundred miles away but I decide to take a chance and go look. This is what I found.

The loader and weight box appears to be an original Simplicity loader combination. The owner claims the tractor started making a metal to metal banging noise so he shut it off right away and parked it. I have turned the motor over with the starter and don't hear any noise so I will have to investigate more. I'm hoping that it is the rear universal joint on the drive shaft. If it is the engine I have a low hour match setting on the shelf. The tractor has 600 hours on it and appears to been well cared for. The down side is I already have two loader tractors.

That was definitely worth traveling an extra 100 miles for.  Congratulations and hopefully.the metal to metal banging noise is an easy fix.  BTW, since you already have two loader tractors, you can just send that one on down to Georgia LOL.

OK Cat your first on the list. When I get done with it (it's going to be this fall at earliest) everything will be replaced or serviced to bring it back to excellent operating condition. If it should turn out that it's not worth reconditioning I will be selling the loader and other parts off of it.

I will update this in the future.

Holy crap chris! Score of the year! It is a factoey setup and they are in high demand. Check the loader pump on the front pto. I had mine come loose once and thought the engine was coming apart. Once off, the pto disengages and you wont hear the noise.

Check the loader pump on the front pto.

Will do. Maybe that's why I didn't hear anything, had the pto switch shut off.

Thanks for the idea

After seeing the pics on the big screen, that thing is in really nice shape. The grille, the side cowls, nothing is busted up! Even the bucket is fairly straight.

You lucky dog! Got three and I haven't even SEEN one!

I've actually had four and the most I've paid for a loader is $250.00. I ended up driving a ways to get them but in the end they seem to be in good condition. Seriously considered passing on this one until visiting with the owner. Asked what the tractor looked like and he said "the hood could use some wax". I almost started laughing. Asked if it had been kept inside and he said "it sure looks like it." Couldn't get it in my head that this could be true. He was concerned that one front tire had a slow leak. I told him it was sold and I was on my way as soon as I could get the trailer hooked up.

Like me he was retired and you couldn't ask to meet a nicer guy. Seemed really grateful that I came and got it. We visited for quite a while and I have to say I enjoyed my time there. Seems he purchased it at someones estate auction and just used it to move stuff around the yard. He replaced the Allis with a new Mahindra about 50% larger and all wheel drive. Kind of liked the looks of that too as I've never been around one of those before.

I have found the key to locating these is to have the cash on hand and don't hesitate to make your move. The guy said he had two more calls shortly after I hung up. Two of mine were located on Craig's list and two on the radio. The one my son has he found by word of mouth.

Wow, fantastic deal and a nice visit.
Hard to beat it.

They must be far more popular out there, I've been watching for one for a long time and when the one I bought came up, I had to move.
I will say this, you've far less in yours than I do mine and you got a tractor too. :D
