I don't know how many of you knew of Les Paul, but he was a incredible guitarist and inventor of the electric guitar the "Les Paul" and invented lots more high end technology for his time. The music world wouldn't be what it is today without him.

He would of turned 100 years old today, but sadly he past away in 2009.

I always liked he way they played, and how they sounded. I also always loved how the strats played and how they sounded.

Those days are long behind me, those guitars have long been sold off. Now I make do with a cheap 50 buck Behringer strat, and a freebie italian 20 watt kicker amp. When I get in the mood, sometimes I fire it up.

I still have my first guitar. It's in pieces, but I have it. It's a 72 Harmony Strat. Sold by Sears in the 70's, mine has/had a full authentic fender setup installed at one time. Its been stripped and rebuilt half a dozen times over the years.

I remember listening to Les Paul and Mary Ford on the old stand-up radio in the late /40s. History lesson for the youngsters out there,---- If you left the radio on too long the tubes would get hot and make the living room smell funky. But I was just a puppy then and hardly remember that at all---    - :D  :D

I am not into guitars, but I did know who Les Paul was.

Thanks for the information, and yes, "Long live rock & roll"!

A good friend of mine, Claymon Sawyer, was a very close friend and played many times with Chet Adkins, Chet use to stop into Claymon's Elizabeth City, NC music shop and talk for hours. They would often grab some of Claymon's old Les Paul's off the wall and make those old worn out pieces sound like magic.

As a side note, if you aren't familiar with Claymon, he was one of the top session guitarists in the business and played with virtually every major country star in the 60's-early 70's, as well as sessions with many top rockers. Sadly drug addiction took his career and finally, his life.

I had several guitars back when I played. Needed some cash and sold all of them but a stratocaster my grandpa bought me in the early 90s. Wish I would of kept them all but life happens.

See, I'm the opposite, I'm right now trying to sell off everything I own (except my music equipment) and go buy a 70's Fender Jazz 5 string bass with a old Tube amp and 8 speakers that is at a auction this weekend in the middle of the flint hills! lol. The guy was a studio bass player, he played with several big jazz bands and also played with "THE DOORS"
