ok so I bought a ST/12 the other day and the man said the fuel pump was the problem, so I went to my parts dealer he said he had one couldnt find it so I said no big deal. Got back to the shop took fuel pump off and just got a little gas tank and ran a fuelline to the carb from it and it will not fire does anyone know what is wrong.

THANKS

This is probably a Tecumseh?

Do you have fire? Pull and ground plug on head to check for fire or maybe a little shot of starter fluid to see if it will fire.

If not fire, then could be a few things, but most likely a bad SSI module

If you do have spark, then it could be a dirty/clogged carb.

That would be the vacuum line that worked the pump. You can plug or cap it.

So it won't fire on fluid even though you have spark? Either it's too weak of spark or very low compression.

Get one of those generic plastic pumps, most say for Briggs and Stratton with the three hose connectors and mount it on tractor or engine shroud to get it working. IF you have spark, yet won't fire on start fluid, has to be a carb or intake problem would think. Do you have choke open all the way when  you spray it? Start fluid you don't need choke closed, and it is in way of the spray going in sometimes. I'm assuming you have air cleaner off then too? Kits are still available for those carbs, I'ld look at that first.

HA!  Don't you love it when you overlook the obvious stuff so easy and try all the hard stuff first?? :D  Glad to hear it is a runner again, now go out and get Seat-Time!
