I'm about to rewire my SS15 the battery cable end is falling off and since I have a bunch of new cables in my parts room I decided just to replace the whole cable but when I got to looking at the other wires the look like they been chewed on.

Use liquid insulation to repair to insulation on the cables. It usually takes several coats. Good Luck, Rick

I like heat shrink, but it's not easy to put on with connectors.
The liquid stuff is pretty good from the places I've seen it used, but like Rick said, it takes a few coats.

I don't know if it's the perfectionist in me or the satisfaction but rewiring for me is the way to go on a mess. My recent MTD 990 rebuild was the worst I've seen. It's not that expensive & it makes it easy to trouble shoot later on.
