The starter quit on my Poulan Pro, I tore it down and the brushes looked good, bottom bearing is good but the top bushing has a tiny bit of slack. I put it back together and it still drags.

Can you buy brushes and bushings and rebuild these?

Do you have your starter's part number or engine model & code number, There is at least 1 brush kit available still for these types of starters.

The family info is for the government epa stuff

There should be a model and type or a model and code number stamped on the tops of the OHV covers or somewhere on the shroud.

That works

Brush kit runs $19.95

Do the bushings  look like the picture below? Your particular starter does not show individual bushings available

I think so on the bearings. I will keep you in mind. I have two of these engines and would like to rebuild one to keep on hand.
I bought a used starter today and ran it about 10 minutes and it started popping back through the carburator.
I pulled the valve covers and found two bent pushrods.
Will have to pick up a couple tomorrow..
