I have a 1974 John Deere 140 garden tractor. It came with a mower deck that doesn't hook up. The rear stabilizers have J pins and so does the spot it is suppose to hook up. Can just the stabilizer be change? Do I need a different deck?mower deck support 001.JPG

RJEgg:

Do you know the Model number of the deck? I had a 140 and had the 48 deck, somewhat misnamed because it is really has a 46 inch cut. I also have the Operator's Manual for the "41 and 48 Rotary Mowers".

Here is the first page of the Installation section of the manual. It shows where and how it attaches. Hope it helps.

I think the deck is off a 110's and 200's series.

the main drive pulley for the 110's and 200's series are in the back of the deck.

the main drive pulley for 140's and 300' series deck are in the front of the deck.

All of my info is at home but I agree with Lyall - it looks as if that is the wrong deck for your 140. I will get you some pics of 120 when I am back home.

One more question where can I get new spindles for my Deck. There are three total one that has 2 pulleys on the top and the other 2 only has 1 pulley on the top.

The spindles are rebuildable but a press is necessary.  You can also buy new ones at the dealer but hold on to your wallet.
