14 hp Biggs Knocking

I have an older 14 B&S motor. Started knocking. This is in an old Heald Hauler. Was my fathres and has been sitting 3-4 years or more. Any additive that migh clear up?

Check the oil but Its probably a connecting rod and the only solution is to replace the rod before it damages the crankshaft and block. While it is apart I would give it a full rebuild. Check for the engine manual in our Manuals Section(3 free downloads per day). Good Luck, Rick

Yeah, I changed the oil. problem not cionfident I can overhaul. Shop talking $350.00. Of course the hauler is a collectors item.

The machine is an heritage or heirloom item to you since it was passed down from your father. That makes it pretty special. If you shop around, you may be able to pick up a good used engine that matches. I would expect to find a running 14 B&S for around $150 in my area at a swap meet. Then save the original until you can afford to rebuild it. Please post some pics. If you want to try rebuilding an engine yourself, pickup a free lawn mower and try on its engine. I picked up alot of the special tools on CL and at swap meets. Good Luck, Rick

Only additive for a knocking engine that I know of is new parts.

i CAN ALWAYS DREAM EH?  Started removing last night. Wish I had confidence to try myself. Wouldn't run so I put adn aftermarket carb on it and now cranks and runs like a dream, .......... except for the KNOCKIN!
