Just got back from a little village called Old Salem. Its a historical preservation of a 18/19th century Moravian town. I was very lucky to get to visit with one of the Joiners. His name is Jerome Bias, we had a nice discussion on handmade furniture and tools. He has a great collection of moulding planes. Some of them dated back to the 1700s and are still in use today. The tools and techniques are absolutely amazing. The furniture he builds will outlast anything made today.
I also got to see homesteading gardens. I think I will take some of the things I saw there and incorporate them into my gardening technique.
