I stumbled onto a pretty rough 1477 today, missing carb, sunk into the ground a little, doesn't look like it's moved in a while... and me without my camera. Lady didn't know much about it, husband would be home later. Any ideas on what I'm getting into? Known Weak spots (I know Doc... it's a Bolens, thus NO weak spots LOL) Are they worth much running? it says Hydrostatic on it BTW.

I'd grab it for under 300 bucks and pop a carb on it. Was it a techumseh?

I did speak with the gentleman tonight. Said the throttle shaft broke & he couldn't find one. "Been a couple of years". As for what's with it, he said it had a 48" snowblower that was a little too big for it, and a mower deck. I didn't see either of those. He said he still has the carb & the broken shaft in the shed. He's gonna talk to the wife & call me back with a starting number. We'll see if it goes anywhere.

The 1477 the last of the short large frames built in only 1971 it was powerd by a 14HP wisconsin with a Eaton 12 hydro.

They go for around $500 give or a take $100.

Thanks for the picture Brian. I look at that and wish that I could step back in time and climb aboard that great looking machine and start mowing grass.

Doesn't the S14D have the same engine block as the S12D on the 1250?
If so it has points and condenser and not a Solid State ignition module.

1477 manual here.

There was something near where the carb went on that said "Solid State Ignition" It was about 2 inches long by 1.5 wide, 3 wires.

Also, Hood was Black? I think? A lot more Black than the cat pic above.

There was a PTO shaft coming thru the front axle, if that helps.

once you get a bolens large frame you can't stop and want another one

Bob: :bigrofl: Thanks for the warning.
