I've been rebuilding tractors for a few years now,and as the title states,I'm crazy for murray tractors. My reasoning behind this madness is here locally, you find them in backyards everywhere, grass growing up around them where they have been put out to pasture, most times a quick inquirey, will get you a new project for free.

My lasts acquisition is a 1981 murray lawn tractor, free of course, tranny locked up,motor bad, ready for complete restoration.

Plans are for black and cat yellow machine,with self made attachments,but right now,tear down,to prep it for paint.Here are a few before pics.murray 3.jpg murray1.jpg murray2.jpg murray4.jpg

Got the old murray down to the base chassis,i'm surprised that there is only minor surface rust, and no metal to be replaced. It amazes me that some of these old tractors can sit in knee high grass for years, and about all you will loose is the deck or the foot boards.unnamed5.jpg 1.jpg unnamed2.jpg unnamed4.jpg

It's easy to see in your photos why these were referred to as "pan frames". Looking forward to following this project.

Fit some body panels on to check clearance on new shifter, set motor on, for ideas on running exhaust, designing lift hitch for rear.20150529_112317.jpg 20150529_112243.jpg 20150529_112303.jpg 20150529_112317.jpg
