Hi guys, I'm working on this machine. He just bought it,has no hood on it and he was told it's a 23 hp Briggs in it. It fires all the time. And will run with gas poured into carb. This has a 2 prong plug in the bottom of bowl. I've cleaned the carb twice now and no better. Can someone tell me what this thing does? Or if I'm overlooking something?

That plug in the bottom of the bowl is a solenoid that cuts the fuel to the engine. If it is bad, no fuel to start it.

Check for power to the carb solenoid. They can be a pain, Noel

Yup. I just traced it back to the relay and it's a pile of rust inside. So I'm  off to see if I can get one tonight as of yet!

You should be able to remove the solenoid from the carb and put a plug in it, like what's used on carbs that don't have the solenoid.

I have cut the end off the plunger on the solenoid with side cutters so that the fuel flows all the time.
