Hi does anyone know how to translate a serial number on the DGT 1700?  From what I can see the serial number is 0300262. I found a chart that says this s/n is 1991. Thank you for any help with this.

The first 2 digits of the serial number designate the production run, in this case 03. The 5117H-03 was made in 1990 and 1991. Your serial number is fairly low, so I would assume it's most likely a 1990.

Bolens changed the first 2 digits anytime any changes were made during the manufacturing process, such as sourcing a part from a different vendor, made a slight design change or used different engine spec # etc. New parts manual would then be issued to reflect whatever changes, usually designated by a different part numbers that were effected by the change. Often, but not always, a service bulletin was issued to the service distributors and dealers to note what changes were made and why, with instructions to possibly update earlier serial numbered machines if needed.

Hi Wilbur that is really interesting information. It does help but also leads me to wonder about the serial numbers. In the 1996 Garden Way Service Seminar Book it shows my serial number being 1991  and up. Thank you for the pdf that you gave to me I appreciate it. I have attached the section that shows my serial number 0300262 being 1991 and up???

Ed the scan I gave you is the factory engineering changes I have. I would say yours is a 90 from all the info I see.

Your book and mine say the 03 started in 1990....
