My diff doesn't lock either, how do I check for rear end play?

These are not designed to be running for long periods with the differential fully engaged so if the knob backs itself out that is normal.

Well then, no wonder the thing won't engage. The day I got it, the free-wheeling pin was rusted in and we took the wheel off to heat it up. I took the nut off to grease everything and the key busted off in doing so. I broke a nice drill bit off in there trying to drill it out. My dad was like, wrap a thin wire in the threads and it'll be good for now. HMMMMM, maybe I should get around to fixing that!
Any recommendations on drilling out a hardened drill bit? Possibly heat?
