Sears Hydro-Trac 12

I'm going to check out a 1968 Sears Hydo-Trac. I'm familiar with Sears Suburbans and Customs, but I'm not sure that I have ever actually seen a Hydro-Trac. Tell me about them. Any way to check the condition of the trans in a non-running tractor?  What else should I look for on a Hydro-Trac? Thanks.

Spin the hydro pulley by hand with the drive control in full forward. The tractor should move as much as an inch for 5 revolutions of the pulley.


Be advised that the fluid may have drained out of the hydro from sitting for an extended time and it won't move without being spun up to over 600 rpm for a while to prime the pump.

Also, the filters for these are NLA it seems.
Unless someone comes up with a viable alternative, you will have to run them with the old ones or without.
