What is the difference between the two set ups and how can I tell which I have?

There are several variations of F & M and Wico as per to the application required. The cover usual always has the company logo on it. Up load a picture and we will figure it out.

You cannot tell by just looking at the engine, since the breaker points cover and assembly is the same between both units as well as the battery ignition setup Wisconsin offered.  The difference is all beneath the flywheel.

There is a serial number break between the two magnetos.  The Fairbanks Morse went obsolete even during production of the engine, so Wisconsin had to switch to Wico.

Number 6039991 was the engine that started using Wico.

There are different flywheels between the Wico and Fairbanks Morse setup, but I am not for sure if their is any difference on the outside.

I cant remember if the casting numbers for the flywheel are on the inside or outide but you can check by that as well

Flywheel N109A1 will be for Wico

Flywheel N109A1S1 is for Obsolete Fairbanks morse

My brain is fuzzy on this, but didn't one of the flywheels (Wico?) have their name cast into the face of the flywheel?
