I just finished adapting a 50" JD deck to my MF 14. The original deck needs some major work done to it. To be able to mow I mounted a JD deck from a 318, with a little welding on JD mule drive and using the same lift mount, it mounted on pretty easy and was able to use the same drive belt. 100_0707.jpg

Looks like you'll have a good cutting machine.BTW looking at the one pic that shows the discharge side,it almost looks like the blade is on upside down. Not sure about that as pics can sometimes not show everything. Also welcome to GTTalk.Larry

what did you do with the old deck ,does it have any good parts on it ,I need the whole center spindle assembly the one that the mule drive hooks to and runs the deck belts

good job on the conversion there is alot of jd decks out there when you compare it to the masseys we have available

good job thinking outside the box

thanks for all the replys

thecoater I still have the massey deck and am planning on fixing it up. It needs some welding to fix a hole along with finding the center spindle.

masseydriver-thanks for the heads up I need to take all the blades off and sharpen them and make sure they are put on the correct way.

I have to ask LOL ,,what is the difference in the jd spindle and the massey

could I just switch this out with an assembly from another deck and just use my pulleys on it?

the coater-the jd spindle looked like it would work except the lowere pulley sits about 2" too low to match up with the Massey outer spindles. :wallbanging:

Due to colder weather and a few more weeks I decided to repaint this John Deere deck. I did compare the Main Drive spindle from the 318 deck to the Massey deck to see if it would be a fit. 2 things;1 the bolt holes would work, the 3 for the JD match with 3 of the 6 on the MF deck. 2 the top pulley would work but the bottom pulley on the JD spindle sits down 1 lower than the MF pulleys. Here are pictures after repainted, couldnt help repainting the mule drive MF silver :D
