Well I did it again, driving by I spotted a tractor with a dump box behind it and a for sale sign on the front.  nice looking cub 147 with a very decent deck, talked to the owner, he said the starter/ gen is nfg,  he tells me someone is coming to look at it but the first person with the cash gets it, I hate to lose out on a deal so I hand him over his asking price  $150 from what I see it looks like a very well built gt, is it a keeper or is it a dime a dozen, thanks for your opinion john

I agree, and the starter gen may not be the problem if it is able to start the tractor but not charge.  The contact points in the voltage regulator tend to get dirty just like the ignition points do.  A good cleaning will many times restore the system to charging.  If the starter gen is weak or no start, probably just new brushes are needed. A good running cub in nice shape with a good mower deck is a $250-$400 tractor here in the states.   Mike

If it runs good, you did well.

I think that you did well. Even when the SG has problems, it is easy and cheap to rebuild. Post some pics. Good Luck, Rick

A 147 for $150?  I wouldn't have been able to hand him the cash quick enough!  147's are not super plentiful and are odd as they are the only narrow frames with a 14hp in them.  Which is why the frame is notched to fit the blower housing of the K321 Kohler.

The K321 engine is highly collectable in it's own right. Can't even buy a parts engine for $ 150 around here.

Sounds like the deal of the day. Pictures would be a plus

Does it still have the electric lift? If so, and it works, you pretty much got the tractor for free...

Congratulations. You got a good deal there. A 147 is a nice solid GT and they go for serious money here.

The only 147's I've ever seen are at shows.

The next time someone reports they called on a CL deal, drove three hours, and showed up to watch the tractor leave on someone else's trailer, you may not comment.

Pics please!

that's always a problem with CL or kijiji, lots of people say they coming and never show, or my favorite ( which has happened more than once to me, they say they want it for sure, but can you hold it for a few days, they finally show but with half your asking price.) I always ask if they will hold it when im on my way, some people do some don't, I have arrived earlier than some and too late on other deals, but when they say first $$$$$ in my hand you take your chances. its all about the hunt and how fast you drive ha ha ha !!!!
