Because it is Mil spec, it will not be on the database. Inside the serial number there will be a number or two that will be different from the other AEND engines showing that change.

Continental Motor Corp's military division Teledyne would know the needed info on that engine, that is if they even retained it which I doubt considering they have nothing to do with any engine below 50 hp since the collapse of the Wisconsin Robin line.

It would be worth a try ??

I am thinking that engine spun a air compressor with the double groove clutch and wide base plate. What I find interesting it the external car coil bolted to the head ? wonder what happened with the old ''buzz box'' ?

That's the way I got it, and what's a buzz box?

Now that you mention the "D" prefix I want to say it  was Distributor equipped but cant say for certain

You were right. I am digging deep into my files but I am a bit confused as to why, I only have assumptions, you have a much larger and better Wisconsin data base, what do you make of this external coil add on ? I have wondered about that for a number of years now.

Sure, ill get more pictures when I get off work. I live in California and it is hard to find parts locally, I have to look back east.

I'll have to do some research on this, I dont think I've ever seen an ignition box like that before!

It seems like some stuff is not original but its hard to say, I have yet to get one of these series here in person to actually see the ins and outs of these models

Brian, I have an idea for your considerations. This being Mil-spec and having a Dist and external coil bolted to the head for the typical set up I wonder if the ''buzz box'' is for a carb warmer for sub temp start up instead of ignition. The aluminum box is similar to the mill-spec external boxes on the Mill-spec THF engines but the pictures are not 100 % clear and I am not 100 % sure. I have seen weirder set up from the 50's on Lauson engines also built for the military before the introductions of the MSE in 54.
