As mentioned in my vacation thread I had the need for something to spread granular weed and feed. This is what I have come up with. It will be a universal, cat0 3ph, receiver hitch, mower pull. Cheap heater motor for slinger, cheap wiper motor for open/ close. Hopper capacity is around 400#. Should be able to do an acre at a time without reload. More pics to come.

This looks interesting! Are you sure the tractor is up to lifting it?

After checking prices on the motors, the wiper motor has been scratched. The intent was to do a reversing momentary switch to operate the damper. The heater motor and resistor came in higher than expected, so I never got around to pricing the wiper motor. I threw out a '95 dodge 1500 with a 5 speed fan, just for someplace to start.... $55 for the motor, $38 for resistor. Ended up with a 3 speed chevy, right at $50 for both. That came with the squirrel cage. I might drink a beer and stare at the fan. I think I can modify it to use as the slinger. It might be easier and stronger just to start from scratch. I need the shaft to be long enough to run the agitator, but I could put an extension on it.

Still working on damper cable. Push/ pull choke cable is the next option. This may be used as a salt spreader too, so getting the controls inside an enclosed cab will not work with the choke cable. Electric was the first choice and may be a $60 upgrade later.

Not sure how Rustoleum will hold up to the corrosive stuff that will go in here. Contemplating a "Rhino lining" type coating on the inside.

What started as a $100 project, is getting closer to $200. The closest production model is around $700 ($999 with tax and shipping) and wont be as versatile as far as what kind of equipment it can be used with and where. I have a front receiver hitch on the prowler and its kinda hard to push a pull behind. With it mounted on the front, I can pull the dethatcher behind and save some time.

I got the cat0 3ph pins on. Battery box is tacked up. Need to get some more steel for the receiver hitch extension. 2.5 x 2.5 .250 wall square tubing isnt something I normally have laying around and I dont need 20' of it. I stuck it in the prowler just to see what it would look like.. I need a piece for the pull behind set up also.

Next up is the floor of the hopper and motor mount, then building the slinger.

Look through here to see if they have an extension that might work.

They do, but its $100. I can buy a 20 foot stick of what I need and buy a battery for it, and still have money left over for $100

** Looks like I didnt look at the 35% discount, its only $65**

I could get by with 3 of these, but with tax and shipping, I would still be up where the 20' stick would be. Gonna check metal by the foot next.

Just putting out options. Didn't know how much extension you need. And you need to add in the filled weight plus bouncing across the ground.

I have the 2" stuff for the extensions. I just need the sockets (or something that size) to make them. I will be adding in a stabilizer bar that utilizes the top link pin for the 3ph and goes down to the extension.

The 400# capacity will probably never be reached, just wanted the extra capacity if I ever needed it.

1 acre of fertilizer is around 200# and will fill it up to 4" passed the rib in the middle.

One place I get metal from is Metals Depot. They sell many types of metal cut to any sizes.

I ended up ordering a prefab receiver pocket for the price 6" of tube would cost.  Got the floor in the hopper and slinger built. Internal seams were caulked with liquid nails to keep oxidizers from getting in the cracks and rusting the sheet metal. Need to grab a few set collars and figure out how I want to do the agitator and gate.  After I do the motor mounts and the arm for the controls, I will be ready to throw some paint at it. Gonna try some van sickle rust inhibitor tractor paint, just because I have some. $50 worth of spraybomb rustoleum is out of the budget right now. The production stuff isnt painted with anything special. HVLP with paint mixed alitttle on the thick side should be as good as anything

been bouncing around on several different projects lately. Rained twice a day for the last week and the yard got away from me. After spending 6 hours of mowing and trimming, I am contemplating fencing off 2 acres and getting a steer. Had to mow it twice. Clover is still going nuts. I finally got some liquid weed and feed before it sold out, so I can get rid of the clover. I will have to wait till fall to overseed. They yard is 12 years old, so I will do all 5 acres.

Finished up the puller setup. I still need to build the limit for the gate and linkage to the handle, then it is ready for paint. I did a test in the shop with a quart of sawdust to check the pattern, not sure I need the resistor for the motor. At the slower speed, it throws heavy to the right. At full speed, it throws 10 feet out the back, with a good pattern 7' wide with some thin coverage 2' on both sides.

I had a half hour to kill, so I went ahead and threw some paint at it.
