It's really sad now that to many just don't want to take the time to look and see whats wrong with the machine. It's getting harder to get older stuff looked at. Sure glad you were able to get the help you needed from your neighbor. Neighbors like him are priceless.

That is GREAT news!  I wouldn't take it back to any of those places again.

I'm elated that you got 'Little John' going again. Have fun with him!

I would think about sending a copy of the entire bill to the JD Dealer's shop mgr with a detailed write up (or at least a link to this thread)

I wouldn't expect such moral and thoughtful folk to follow up... But it might be the bucket of cold water they need to wake up and not hose the next guy/gal.

Anyways, fantastic news that the Little John is a runner once again.

I'm drafting a letter while I'm still angry/indignant/fed up. Then I'll wait a week or so, at least until I calm down a bit, lol. Then I'll tweak it, be reasonable but pointed, and send it to head office. No point in burning bridges; I do need them for parts and service on my other tractor. If this whole episode is company policy, that's one thing, if it the salesman and the small machine mechanic joining forces to gain brownie points by selling new machines, that's another. Time will tell.

Got the lawn mowed for the second time this year, not a bit of trouble out of Little John---- not too shabby for a tractor that "wasn't worth fixing" lol.

Now I'm working on getting a new/old hood for it. My Olde Deere had contacted a fellow about two years ago on Farm Show who had parts etc. He emailed me a short while ago that he had a hood for an STX38 come in. Friends in Iowa will be coming up next month and said they'd look into it for me and they'll bring it with them when they come if they think it's a good deal.

This just keeps looking better for you and worse for your "dealer"
