LOL

Dalbo Post Office is only open from 10:30 - 2:30. Sometimes fewer hours. This PO was slated to close awhile back. They shorten their hours every year. Ogilvie not sure but maybe 5:30. Cat ,we are very rural.

I better get back to work.

Its almost a tradition at our household to file our taxes at the last minute  ......LOL

I say every year I'll get it out earlier next year  , but I procrastinate , and it goes out last minute because I hate doing taxes .

My federal went out Monday and state went out Tuesday ( yesterday )  .

The good thing is I get a refund from both . :D

My wife use to do our taxes ( I helped some but she's the mathematician in the family ) , but now she's got serious health issues and last year was the first year I did ours solo . So of course there was an error .......LOL

She filed for disability almost 3 years ago and by the time the SSA got done dragging there feet and she was approved they ended up back paying her for 13 months that it took to get approved . That plus what they paid her for the rest of last year killed us on our taxes . So I had to claim almost two year of untaxed income that amounted to 36K . Needless to say her lump sum plus what she got paid for the rest of last year killed us on our federal taxes and I ended up paying an additional $4700 on top of the considerable amount of taxes that I paid from working my job .

A couple of weeks after I sent the federal in I was talking to a friend about it , and mention having to pay taxes on her lump sum . That is when I found out that I had made an error on our taxes and had overpaid $1300 .

I was about to go thru the process of re-filing when I got a letter from the IRS telling me that they had caught the error , and they were going to send me the $1300 . They even paid me an additional  $8 in interest , which I had to claim this year as income....LOL

I still paid out the butt , but not as bad as I thought it was going to be .

I always figured that with the amount of 1040's they get ever year they just glance at them , but evidently they look at them a little closer than I thought .

Got mine done Monday. In Canada they want the taxes filed electronically. I always used the paper form until 2 years ago. It still feels odd to hit that Netfile button and it's done. I say this every year but we really need to hire someone to help with this. With my wife having a part time business and with both of us now having pension income, it's starting to get a bit complicated.

I can't say anything because it would most likely be "politically incorrect".

I had mine done and refund in the bank back at the beginning of the year.

I get my W2, and file right away.  I did a little more this year in filing extra stuff, but still got done super quick.

I'm the same way but having a daughter who will be going to college in the fall really helps you get off square one and get it done since the schools all need the FAFSA and the FAFSA can't be done until the taxes are.  One school we dealt with in the past actually wanted the FAFSA by Feb. 1st which is impossible since by law you are required to have everything you need to do your taxes by Jan. 31!  The fun never ends with the tax situation.
