My dad was in the Navy at that time and had the manual on how to splice rope and used it to repair the hay rope in the barn several times as I recall. Thanks for sharing.

I kept watching beyond the "bitter end". I always wondered where that phrase came from. Great video,thanks for posting it. My Grandfather, Father, and two of my Uncles were in the NAVY. There was always hemp rope in their garages and they took care of it well. I hit a yard sale a couple of years ago and bought a real nice block and tackle that was very well taken care of. The blocks have brass pulleys and are in great shape, too. It's a very old set, and I knew of the farmer who owned them many years ago. The rope itself looks as if it was made yesterday, but has slightly darkened from age. One thing you will never forget, is the smell of that old hemp rope.

David , do they have  medical hemp in Alabama? :D   Not that I ever did anything like that of course  er um that I remember.Well maybe once BUT I didn't inhale.

That brought back memories.  We had to learn about rope in Boot camp although in Aviation we really didn't use much.  I remember having to sit through a lot of those type films and I may have even seen that one before.  The bad part is that since I didn't use the knowledge it soon was lost.  Thanks Alan. :thumbs:
