Never do. I find it grows fast enough, I just lower the deck a bit on the first cut. Noel

I have found that when I don't rake the lawn before the grass grows, there will be places choked by the dead grass. Fertilizer and lime seem to work faster after it is raked. The other side is that the thatch seems to help when it is a dry summer. I hope to do a bunch of work on my lawn later this year but I plan to rake it after the snow melts off. Good Luck, Rick

When I dethatch I never put cinder blocke on the dethatcher,  just let it kind of scratch the surface,  think its agressive enough with out adding any weight.  If I do my yard it will more than likely be next week.  after the rain this week,  looks like it will be warm next week, abd things will green up fast.

I mow with a leaf vac and dont have much left behind, so I dethatch every other year, or if I was rushed in getting my leaves up. This is the year to detatch and overseed.

Like Cat I use a Sweepster in most areas but it will really take it all up...grass too if you arent careful. I like an EZ Rake best, and sometimes a Simplicity Revitalizer.

I enjoy dethatching,,almost every year..  One note,, don't thatch when the grass is too early,, OR  Wet in spring.. It will tear up some of the good  ( GREEN ) grass.. Lawns are very tender after the winter...        Good luck...

My front yard is tiny so I hand rake with the metal lawn rake. The back yard I just let go, I mulch my grass so not much long clippings to clean up.
