Here is what I have, I found something today I didn't see before and it is this slit in the spindle ...... does that mean I should have a wedge I could drive that out with ???

This is the chuck.

This is the bottom of the spindle where the bolt is broken.

This I found today. Wondering if this would drive out with a wedge?

Any suggestions or help appreciate.

You are correct that is for removing the chuck  Also you can buy Tapered Shank Drill bits, They just fit in there in place of the chuck..

You chuck looks to have a Jacob taper that holds it to a morse taper that holds it in the spindle--Yes you just put a wedge in the slot and rap it with a hammer and it will fall out.To reinstall it just line up the tang with the slot in the spindle and give it a light rap with a brass hammer, you don't have to beat it in ,just a light rap,

Okay. Thanks. I am going to the garage and make a small wedge from a piece if steel I've got to get it out. I hadn't noticed this slit until today ! Once I get it out it will be easier ti deal with the broken bolt. Can't believe I didn't see this before. Thanks guys,                                                                                             Roger.

Removed the spindle and chuck and found that there is a Mores taper on the upper of the spindle and a Jacobs taper on the bottom where the chuck fits on. I placed pictures on the #2 post so you can see what I found.

As I said in the first post I am most grateful for you guys and your knowledge. I have found over and over how knowledgeable and willing to help you really are. Thanks for being there for those of us who need some help and guidance.                             Roger
